chloroform from methylated spirits

Is it possible to substitute methylated spirits where ethanol not available, in the ethanol + water + calcium hypochlorate to get chloroform.

You should give it a go, and infrm the rest of us learner.
The bottle I have states that it is 95% ethanol. With the vast majority of the extra 5% necessarily being water, one would assume that the bittering agent comprises only a very small percentage (I guess < 1%).
Mercury Fulminate calls for ethanol, however metho bought in Aus is perfectly fine for this application (and Ethyl Nitrate works too, if you're very, very, very carefull)

Use small amounts, operating as far from mixture as possible. The metho and pool chlorine are of course vastly easier to obtain/replace than eyes and or body parts.
