Fractions and power

I tried the Ag2C. AgNO2 synthesis out of curiosity and tried something that might be of interest. I decided to split the fractions of crystalisation by introducing the acetylene for a short time and then filtering the ppt. Then continue adding acetylene again and then filtering.

The dried products varied considerably in their power and sensitivity to flame when dried. The first fractions being the most powerful and the latter the weakest. Small crystals could punch a hole in thin cardboard while the later fractions couldn't. No residue could be found after the earlier fractions were detonated while the later ones were stained black. Also the latter fractions showed discolouration upon drying showing copper pink tinges while the earlier fractions remained snow white.

Silver was 4 nines, acid was lab grade, acetylene from a welding tank, demineralised water used for dilution and subsequent rinses.
