Aluminum powder from firecrackers?
Hi everyone! I know that firecrackers use flash powder which contains Al/KClO4 and sometimes Sulfur. So, my question is - can you actually separate
the aluminum from the other stuff?
P.S. I tried mixing this powder with water, but it turned to a weird solution with some slag floating on the top.

That slag would have been your aluminum....assuming enough water was added to dissolve the perchlorate.

Also consider that some compositions especially those with sulfur use KNO3 instead of KClO4. And sulfur of course is insoluble in water...

And my question is ─ why would you?
I mean, aluminium powder is cheap and readily available . . . ?

Dissolve in water to get rid of the KClO4.
Then dissolve in toluene to dissolve the sulfur.
