Forum safety

Hi guys.

I was wondering how safe is it to discuss topics here without getting in to trouble with the law...is there a way for a person to safeguard his identity here in the forum?

Don't be silly.

If there's something illegal you want to do, you'll end up being caught anyway.

E.g. if you want to make and sell drugs, you'll more likely be caught (or killed) whilst selling them.

If you want to discuss a particular system or synthesis, having already done the work yourself, people here will generally be interested.

None are interested in handing out recipes.

In my opinion, if you put something on the net or in your smartphone, computer etc. then it is not 'safe'
With smart TVs etc. around, even what you say is not 'safe'.

Booze was invented to let the contents of your head dribble out all over the internet.

Well, that's my experience ...

The forum only knows what you allow it to get, TOR, ProxyGambit, fake emails and info, anyone who's worried enough could keep his identity off the web. BUT, if you were a target valuable enough, it's been shown that the TOR web can be compromised by some 3 letter group that has enough resources....

Im not thinking of making or selling drugs...dont you be silly hehe...i was rather thinking that if i was curious and wanted to know how something would work, could that be aenough to get i to trouble...i mean freedom of info should not be scary...

I really wouldnt be worried honestly. If you are not doing anything highly illegal anything you say should be taken as theoretical. Sure you can think that if you were to do something highly illegal and discuss it here you may get investigated but I usually think like this:

It is very vain of someone to think the law is watching them because they said a string of words on the internet. The internet is a huge place and words get said all the time through it. It would be very unlike for someone to get investigated asking "how does one perform a birch reduction" or "can someone assist with a Grignard reaction" However if you state "i need to synthesis a batch of meth for sale" then maybe you will get caught up in something but i still think not.

Chemistry is a natural drive, not an interest.

I'm more afraid of getting caught up into an ontology, with correlation scores determined between myself, my topics, and likelihood of relation to other topics.

I have been there and contributed to such a "theoretical" system, and know they have to be used by various governments. The field of machine learning, computational linguistics and vision have gotten to the point where it's beyond scary when combined with mass surveillance. Just the results we saw were somewhat surprising.

Even looking at this site puts you on some List or other.

If World Events cause that List to be used, we will find you.

Make no mistake: we can always find you.

There is nowhere to hide.
