Chemistry aptitude test
I saw Berts post containing the chemistry test. I also saw how some of it was subjective or called for conjecture.
Adding to that I could not get the test to move off of the first page (don't know why) so I looked up a few aptitude tests, and found one that
requires a real understanding of chemistry to even attempt a shot at a good "score".
I can not understand 90% of it so I assign myself an "F".
Perhaps as time passes I can re-take the test, and see how my knowledge is increasing.
I'm also VERY curious as to how many here are in my shoes, and how many "real" chemists there are on this site. I also hope this is helpful for others
if not amusing for the pros.

I started it but gave up on it. Questions are not worded well. Non-standard items like gms for grams. And I reported one incorrect answer before I
had done five questions. I am sure there are better around.

Is there a test you can recommend?
I'd like to sort of monitor my progress in a verifiable way.
That may sound silly to some.I see a quantitative value in this approach.

I tried taking the chemistry GRE practice exam a while back: https://www.ets.org/gre/subject/about/content/chemistry
I felt like most of it was organic, though, which I'm no good at. Still, it's an official chemistry exam!

Very helpful sites. Thank you guys.
Some point today will reveal just how ignorant I am.
Chem Spider I have come across before. It's been very helpful in relating to the drawings of molecules I have seen.
It's in my bookmarks .

Rather than try and pass pissy little "Chemistry aptitude tests" just study chemistry at GCSE/A level and be done with it.
What if the test shows you have 'low aptitude'? If you had a small penis would you decide not to have sex anymore?
File these tests under 'Hello', 'Heat' and other horoscopic pages. I'm surprised a moderator here even came up with suggesting such a test.
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/ is one of the best resources for home learning in that field.

Glad to hear it.
Chemguide is far from the ultimate authority on anything but that's not its goal either. As far as base knowledge acquisition goes, suitable for later
foraging into more fundamentalist stuff, it's about as 'good as it gets'.

I have been using several sites, and constant searching for answers. More or less a backwards approach. I never thought about any sort of "test" until
I saw Bert's post, and I do believe a base line test is a good idea no matter what the field of study.
Aptitude tests have always been my personal favorites because of their common sense approach more so than strict factual structure.
I always test well on aptitude tests.
Now Chemguide looks like what I have been searching for. A structured site to learn from.
I found some time ago that University of Hawaii lectures from the Pharmacology department are on line, and I have been working with these.
Obviously a firm grasp on Chemistry is mandatory to follow any of the "branch" sciences.
You fellas have provided me the missing link between "on line" learning, and "on site" interaction.
Granted my approach may be home spun, with hit, and miss context but Learning is learning. No matter how it is achieved.
You all may not realize how helpful you are.
Thanks!

No, aptitude tests are crap and useless obnoxious nonsense and that's final.
We also know they are popular in a certain large country and why.

I did the first 8 pages and got all but one pissy significant figure question wrong cause I went through too fast.
I agree with j_sum1, they could've done a better job wording the questions.
Quite the contrary, sounds to me like a reason for more sex. But what do you mean by "anymore"? Like: "I've been having sex for years, but now that
I've discovered my penis is small (by watching too much porn perhaps), I've gotta find a new hobby, like candle collecting, don't need a pair for
that!"

I understand that. If you want, or choose to could you explain it in a U2U if you get a chance? If not that's fine as well.
