Gold Plating

I've found a cyanide bath of KAu(CN)2 and KCN to work well. Of course, this is lab chemistry, not kitchen counter chemistry.

If niceties are dispensed with, then it is possible to use straight KCN with a gold anode. Gold builds up in the bath during operation to the point where it begins plating out onto the cathode. Cyanide copper baths can also be made this way. Don't leave the anode in solution while it's not being used.

In most cases it is also necessary to electro-clean the part in a straight KCN bath before transferring it to the plating bath.

Cyanide salts are toxic, so be careful.
