My experience with downloading this was not positive. The thing installed a whole cluster of software I didn't want, one of which acc. to my Norton
was attacking my computer!
Several uninstalls later, I tried launching 'Downlite', only to be told I didn't have the right Java version.
Perfect it ain't and the sexist ads make it look rather suspicious.
In short: I don't like it.

You have to be careful what you click on PirateBay. And that's an understatement.
You don't download the 33GB file directly from PirateBay. You only get the small .torrent file. You then need to use a
separate bit torrent client like Azureus to download the file. You're actually downloading it directly from other people's
computers instead of from a centralized server.

I probably clicked on PirateBay, bfesser. The trouble with some of these download pages is that it isn't always clear what you want to click on
because there's so many links vying for your attention.
So what can I click that will work?

I apologize for your trouble, blogfast25. I rarely use torrents myself, and hadn't noticed all the misleading ads on The Pirate Bay.
I had included that link for those who were interested in seeing the full document I quoted from.
You'll need to install a bit torrent client (for Windows, I recommend <a href="http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete/os/win/track/stable"
target="_blank">μTorrent</a> <img src="../scipics/_ext.png" /> . Then you can click the magnet link I put in the first post of this topic.

Torrents are a sort of peer-to-peer file sharing architecture. They've become a standard means of sharing large files and archives, such as Linux
distributions. Unfortunately, it's more often associated with—particularly in the media—illegal content sharing, such as music
and movie piracy. If you'd prefer, I can upload the archive to my web host and you could download it via the more traditional HTTP/FTP, but this
would take quite some time and would be more prone to data corruption. Just let me know.

While it is frowned upon by the TOR community, I will not touch torrents today without being on it because of all the draconian laws out now,
especially in the US from the RIAA, MPAA, etc., all looking for a lawsuit for IP infractions.
If you haven't heard of it, search for The Onion Router network, TOR, or if on windows, the handy to install Vidalia bundle.
Also, if using Pirate Bay, use the very tiny "magnet" link above the description and you avoid all the B.S.
A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

This specific torrent is <em>perfectly legal</em>—as noted in the first post. There's no need to use TOR to download it safely.
Piracy is not the subject of this thread.

What format is this file in? I mean: what do you get to 'see'? Scanned versions of these RS documents? OCR versions? Would it be possible to put up a
sample here?

I haven't figured out how to use the metadata that's downloaded with it to really be able to search the archive. Without being able to do that you
can't find anything specific.

members.
blogfast25, there's no OCR, but that's easy enough to do yourself. Here's a sample PDF:
