Synthesizing Nanomaterials

Hello all I used to post on this site under the user name Trifluoroacetic.

I've been spending my time synthesizing Nanoprticles and taking UV/VIS measurements.

So far I have produced the following NP's:
Selenium NP's in chitosan
Gold NP's in chitosan
Gold NP's in PEI
Silver NP's via hydrazine reduction

I have plans to make core shell nanoparticles, SiO2 NP's, Quantum Dots, etc.

Here are more of the NP's that I have made.

U2U woelen, vulture, or Polverone. I'm sure that they can reset your password if you can verify your identity.

once managed to make 1.5L of silver nanoparticles, as in divided in 1.5 litres of water..
think i used syrup on some silver salt, but ofcourse this might count as adding impurities which might be hard to seperate out..

How much sliver was in this suspension?
I would appriciate it if you could elaborate on the procedure.:P

im 100% unsure infact..
it could be either AgNO3 or AgCl2..

i cant really find video that used to describe the process, apparently the solution had to start kinda boiling and then the silver would ppt out

but im quite sure it was AgNO3 and syrup i used for it.. glucose should work aswell, because thats the stuff in syrup used for the reaction
anyhow, when i let the bottle stand around for long periods of time i can get a mm of ppt silver (pitch black) settling on the botom, its somewhat dark, very brown, i doubt you can see through it especially as it was just tumbled about a day ago..

Reducing silver salts with glucose may not give nano-sized particles. What were the specific conditions you used?

As below, so above.

I've had good success with using 1mM of AgNO3 in distilled water with hydrazine sulfate approx 1% at 1-2mL. The hydrazine will reduce and stabilize the AgNP's. The NP's are black when concentrated but yellow when diluted.

Adding a capping agent like chitosan, PVP or PVA will keep the particles from agglomerating.

well, im completely unable to catch any of the particles using a filter (which is on average 1µm) and they stay in suspension for many months, if not nanoparticles then at least quite small ^^

What is the color of your silver NP's when diluted?
