SO2 Wet Scrubber
Hello, I am designing a small scale Na2CO3 Wet Scrubber for removing SO2 from the atmosphere. Basically it’s a low vacuum drum whereby air is drawn
in the through the bottom and bubbles up the through the Sodium Carbonate solution.
This is what I reckon will happen :-) Please correct if wrong.
2 SO2 + 2 H2O = 2 SO2H2O
2 SO2.H2O + Na2CO3 = 2 NaHSO3 + CO2 + H2O
What I don't know is the optimum ratio of Na2CO3 to H2O and the resulting yeilds. IE 10G Na2CO3 dissolved in 1000ML H2O (10 deg C). Yeilding xG of
NaHSO3.

SO2 reacts with water, forming sulphurous acid H2SO3.
The SO2 content in air is measured in PPB (parts per billion) so a very small yield is to be expected . . .
