Best Rotovapor for the money?
Hey All,
My lab has a limited budget and is in need of a new rotary evaporator, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with some of the less expensive
models that I am looking at.
They are as follows:
http://www.eyelausa.com/category.php?cID=1
http://www.wilmad-labglass.com/group/3082
http://www.daigger.com/catalog/product/d-Rotary+Evaporators/...
I have a budget of around 2000 to spend, give or take, and want a model that has a water bath that will take a 2 or 3 L flask for both sample and
receiving flask.
I don't have a lot of experience with the brands, and would appreciate any input that can be shared.
Also, does anyone know of any affordable good quality rotovapors that I haven't listed?
Thanks,
JM23

Get a Buchi. They're the industry standard in many research labs. You say you have 2000 to spend but you don't give a currency or location. Good luck.

Hey DJF90,
I would love a Buchi, but my 2000 is in USD. From what I have seen I would be lucky to get a used Buchi with glassware for that price.
Would a used buchi be better than a new (with warranty) off brand?
Location is North America. Fwiw I do have tax ID information so I can purchase at wholesale, but somehow I doubt Buchi would want to set up a
wholesale account for a one rotovap sale.
Thanks,

Buy a good used Buchi off of Ebay. The new ones are lousy and break very easily from my experience. I have a Buchi RE that is at least forty years old
and still runs. I have seen some very nice setups on Ebay for around $1000.

I'm sooo jealous...
Youth is wasted on the young isn't it
During my undergrad days using a rotovap was like using a screwdriver. If you needed it; it was there.
And now....

When once everything was laid out at one's fingertips - now it's; "I had that fucking thing two seconds ago - and now it's disappeared completely???"
It pisses off my woman, so she'll usually find it in a flash (whatever it is) to break the mad tsunami of expletives - .
And yes, being young is probably the most unappreciated human condition on the planet!

I got a complete Rotovapor-R in very good condition on ebay for $450.
Sauron once said, these are ideal because they are completely analog, no IC's that could potentially fail.

that's pretty much an average price.
once saw an R-124 (except with a dry ice condenser), complete with waterbath, for 400 on labx.
