I'm trying to extract an alkaloid from this gunky liquid. The first thing I did was to add a base (ammonia) to turn the salt into a free base
which is hence, insoluble in water. Then I added a non-polar solvent (naptha) so that the alkaloid would transfer out of the gunk.
Now that I have the naptha alkaloid mix, I was going to procede with using citric acid but I realized that all I have around is acetic acid (28%).
Will acetic acid work as well? Will the final product after evaporation be harmful/fatal to ingest?
