Hello,
I'm french, I'd like to know if there are other french people into chemistry who have a lab at home.

I speak french, but I'm from Belgium...although Lille/Rijsel is not far away from belgian frontier

Sorry for the late reply, I am indeed moving and had only intermettent internet acces until recently.
I'm now living in Strasbourg, north east of France, and use to have a home lab down in the south. The lab is packed into boxes waiting for the day
where I can set it up again, not in the near futur I'm afraid...
But I've got tons of chemistry to do at work, only frustating part is that I can't really discuss it publicly of course, so no pictures or reports!
I'm glad to see more and more french chemist getting more involved in their passion, there's never enough For a while I thought I was the only one on this forum!

I know at least 2 members here who live in France. I used to live in France too for years.
Problem is, even ammonia water and acetone starts dissapearing from the shelves; trying to buy these may raise the eyebrows. Not good for the home
chemist.
And I must add that ammonia water ("alkali" as it's called there) is an "hystorical" product for home use in France along with "eau de Javel".
Still, there's a french chemistry forum, with far less "serious" members who you may meet in person since most of them actually are from France: http://scienceamusante.net/forum/chimie.php

Can you also buy iodine, hydriodic
acid, hydrobromic acid, red and white phosphorus, nitric and sulfuric acids, toluene, benzaldehyde, diethyl ether, isopropanol, safrole, and acetic
anhydride at those scientific-supplies shops in Belgium?

iodine : yes
hydriodic acid : maybe, should ask
hydrobromic acid : idem
phosphorous : nope
nitric acid 40% and 70% : no problem
sulfuric acid 36% and 96% : no problem
toluene : yes
benzaldehyde : yes
diethyl ether : yes, even in pharmacy (usualy when I need something there I first ask for ether so they are too drunk to think about anything)
isopropanol : yes, pharmacy too but expensive
safrole : shouldn't try that, it's forbidden in belgium
acetic anhydride : they used to but not anymore
Actually you can find almost anything as long as it's not a drug precursor. They do not mind about pyro stuff... so you can buy potassium chlorate for
2eur/kg without any problem...
