I'm a research technician in a university biology lab. Most of my day is spent on bioinformatics, but I sometimes get to spend time at the bench,
pipetting very small amounts of liquid back and forth from tiny tubes. I also have several fruit fly species and subspecies I keep alive.

By qualification (and the first 20 odd years of my career, I'm a chemist.
My job title is "knowledge analyst" and I work for a bit of the government that doesn't like me to mention it on the web.
It's nothing exciting and you have heard of it- they are just a bit shy.

I work a lab position for a company making highly purified enzymes. I have also become the go-to guy to ask chemistry questions to since most of the
employees are so bio-focused that they can't troubleshoot badly behaving reagents.

j_sum1, sorry should have been more specific, gold. Although Carnotite, a Uranium ore, is not overly rare in some of the nearby inland salt lakes.

Retired. Started as a Ph. D. bench chemist at a major pharma company in 1975, went west to join the biotech revolution in the late 1980's and had a
great time with the excitement of several start ups. Ended my career as a senior executive responsible for everything from new lead discovery to
process research with a large biotech company. The worst part was always having to deal with the green eye shade guys. But it was great fun with the
"youngsters" in the labs, though. Now it is back to the test tubes and beakers and having to wash my own glassware but I love every minute of it.
