Reaction ideas anyone?
I know this probably isn't the best post to put up but I'll give it a shot.
I am looking for a good organic synth that has intresting results, but that can be done in a high school lab.
I have searched around and it seems alot of these synths require odd chemicals that I simply don't have access too.
Any input would be appreciated.

It would help if you would define what you understand as "interesting results". Everybody has its own interests.

You try to synthetise Ester, like Ethyl Butyrate which smell like Banana and require only Acetic Acid and Butanol which are pretty common in high
school lab. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ester for a better list and a quick method. Alternatively you could try to synthetise Chlorobutanol which require no
heat and only chloroform, acetone and a base like NaOH and KOH, pretty easy and smell like camphor.

I'm afraid you were a bit too late with that suggestion as he was already up to that:

I guess what I would define as interesting is something with an application to the everyday, that is yet somehow exotic. Or something with unique
properties (such as the esters). Which have smells and tastes. (Granted I'm yet to taste any of them.)
The Chlorobutanol looks like it could be fun. Assuming my school has chloroform I will give it a run.
Thanks again for your guys input.

Or you could just make the chloroform from bleach and acetone.

It might be usefull to precise that chlorobutanol as general analgesic property.

Iodoform? Bright color (yellow), strong odor... antibacterial.

Sodium Hypochlorite and Acetone give off chloroform? Interesting.
