pH paper / solution vs. bleach

I want to measure the pH of a solution containing chlorine and hypochlorite ions.

However, my pH-paper is turning useless after a drop of this bleaching solution, it just keeps the yellow colour it had and gradually fades to a white-ish yellow.

An indicator solution was even worse, the color faded the second it went into the solution.

Now, I don't have a pH-meter, but I wouldn't feel comfortable sticking it in that aggressive solution anyway.

Is there some trick to measure the pH regardless?
