Amides from urea
Is is possible to obtain every amide in the way acetamide is prepared from acetic acid and urea? I know other routes like bubbling ammonia gas to
acids for a few hours, but if the reaction with urea proceeds I would prefer to choose this. I am interested in:
1. butanoic acid
2. stearic acid
According to the firs one I see no problems because both acetamide and butyramide have similar b.p.. Can somebody assure me if it works?
Stearic acid has high boiling point, but it melts in 72 C so there should be no problems too.
On a Doug's Lab channel he heated the mixture to ~140C, but can you tell me if heating above 150C, and the resulting formation of biuret will affect
the reaction?
