Regenerating GAC
(GAC) granular activated carbon

Removing chlorite with GAC
Thermally regenerated GAC obtained from exhausted GAC treated with the following steps: drying at 100 C. heating at 300C for organic compounds
desorption, and heating again at 800C with steam for organic compounds gasification.
Chemical Regeneration experiments were performed on exhausted GAC by acid, base, and base-acid washings. Of the chemical regeneration studies in this
research, base-acid washing provided the best results.
Base-Acid Regeneration:
Exhausted GAC(25g) was put in contact with the following solutions: 1L of NaOH at pH13 for 10 min, 10L of distilled water for 18 hours, and 1 Liter of
HCl with pH of 1 for 10 min. Subsequently, the GAC was filtered and washed with 40 L of distilled water and dried in a stove at 90C
To the average walmart shopper they said activated carbon cant be reused, but I said what of science what of chemistry. They told me to go to the
automotive department and ask them. Its probably cheaper to buy new activated carbon, but depending on your application and amount used options have
ye.
