Big Tungsten sample
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a piece of Tungsten, just as a curiosity for its high density.
I looked on eBay and found some really fancy kilo and two and a half kilo samples for over 200 euro, and smaller pieces of scrap. But not what I'm
looking for.
I'm looking for around a kilo of cheapish metal in one piece, bigger would also be fine if the price is right. Does anyone know where I could find
something like that?

Hi
My exclusive source of tungsten and molybdenum metals are damaged X-ray tubes, those with rotating anodes.
Are basically refractory alloys.

Yeah tungsten alloys may be a good choice, I have a piece of W80Cu20alloy which is really DENSE.

Is 85-400 g of tungsten massive enough for your taste?
Used tungten cylinder electrodes are always on eBay in various masses (I see them from 85 g to 408 g right now), and they are cheap. I have one as a
paper weight. Search for "Used Tungsten Metal Electrode Cylinder Rod" or some-such combination.
224 g:

This one is 408 g:

You could ask at Midwest Tungsten and see what they have.
https://www.tungsten.com/
They have an orphan bin in which they list surplus items. I recall seeing a large tungsten bar there once. Listed items do change but not regularly.
(And yes I have bought from them before. Service was good but shipping prohibitive to my corner of the globe.)

There is some nice looking W here
https://www.hood.de/i/wolfram-rein-element-99-9-1000-g-5g-se...
Why have some of the samples (or bars) got a very rough but organised surface texture.
I think I have just found the answer. They seem to be electrodes from lamps?

Apologies in advance for necroposting.
On the off chance that you are still looking, I've got a few kg's of tungsten powder. I'd be willing to send some to you if you can cover postage
cost.
