Buying 1.7 kg of pentaerythritol wouldn't be the greatest idea since it's got very little uses outside of industry like paints and resins and obviously explosives. Depending which country you live in you would likely have your door kicked in at 5am raided and arrested by homeland security.

Well it looks like he sells smaller quantities as well. I purchased 150g mostly out of curiosity. Does anyone have any good non-pyro related uses for it? I am mostly interested in its uses in resins and polymers.

Maybe try heating with oxalic acid or urea to make a thermohardening resin...
C(-CH2-OH)4 + HO2C-CO2H -heat-> 3D-PE oxalate ester + H2O(g)
C(-CH2-OH)4 + H2N-CO-NH2 -heat-> 3D-PE carbonate ester + NH3(g)

May also work with terephtalic acid from PET bottles.
C(-CH2-OH)4 + HO2C-C6H4-CO2H -heat-> 3D-PE terephtalate ester + H2O(g)

Great suggestions, thank you! I'm hoping to learn some polymer chemistry, since I regrettably never to organic chem while I was in college.
