Broken Vigreux Column
A while ago I got a 100mm Vigreux column but very clumsily broke it soon after getting it. I kept it however, and it's been sitting in a cabinet.
However, I'm wondering, is it still safely usable? It can fit into my glassware and I can't really move it from side to side so it's fairly stable,
but I'm still unsure.

I wouldn't use it for anything dangerously reactive/flammable but for more benign things it should be okay. You should watch out for how thermal
stress on it though, it probably won't take nearly as much as it would have. I have been using a dimroth condenser that I received with a cracked
coil as a fractionating column but it's in much better condition than that vigreux.

Doesn't look like a very good fractioning column to begin with
You can smash it into pieces and use it for boiling stones
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble

It could be used in a simple distiallation set-up as a final precausionary condenser after the receiving adapter.

I used to collect broken pieces like that, I used them in high temperature setups to connect to glassware. I would put that adapter into a reducing
adapter on a pipe and set it in place with fireplace cement for attempts at phosphorus and carbon disulfide.

Looks ok for safer things. Keep it just in case you ever have a use.
