Sulfur
Does anyone know where to find sulfur? I live in Norway so and can't find it anywhere. I have tried gardening stores and about every store that sells
fertilizers. I don't need it very pure.

Many drug stores used to sell it as flowers of sulfur in the US, not sure in Norway, but it is not hard to find it here. Or try Ebay, or some of the
european people selling materials on this website or similar ones. I have seen people selling 50 pound sacks of it.

They sell it here as a fertalizer but it's impure (u.s.a)

I Miss seeing the great pile of sulfur, it is like a land mark/monument, had a few sacks from the cast off on the train tracks.

I bought some "snake eyes" brand "wettable dusting sulfur" and RUINED a beaker trying to sublime it. It seems to make wonderful black powder but I'd
really like to purify it. Anyone have suggestions?

I think you can recrystalize it from toluene. I have never tried this.

Works great, although not much sulphur dissolves.
Very fast process.
Much prettier as teensy-weensy crystals than 'flowers'.

Recrystallise from xylene works better.
Easy to purify.

I haven't done a direct comparison, but diddi informs me that sulfur has roughly double the solubility in xylene compared to toluene.
(And yes, I know there are some isomers there. IIRC my OTC xylene is around 80% ortho.)
