Acetylsalicylic and salicylic test

I've recrystallized ASA using two different solvent -- acetone and isopropyl alcohol 99% and heating it til it all dissolved and then filtered and evaporated to dryness. The latter solvent (isopropyl alcohol) had a vinegar scent.

My question is: how can you tell if what you have is basically asa or a mixture of asa/sa? Is there a way to test the presence of one or the other?

What I'm going after is a pure sample of ASA with minimal SA.

ASA won't react with iron(III) ions; SA will turn intense purple with Fe(3+).

Please remember: "Filtrate" is not a verb.

Just to give a citation for what was said (among many other sources) Versuchschemie.de had an article on ASA synthesis which gave the above procedure of purity testing as a method.
