balancing / calculation
I hope you guys understand this, I dont know the right technical expressions in english. I having trouble balancing / calculation equations with
Organic compounds.
Im working on chlorination of Toluene and I know there are some topic on the subject (benzyl chloride)
H2SO4 + 2NaCL --> 2HCL + Na2SO4
30gr of NaCl is used (81,43g/mol.... 0,368mol) giving 13,78gr HCL gas (37,45g/mol.... 0,368mol)
But now....
HCL + C7H8 --> C6H5.CH2Cl ????
How much HCL gas for how much toluene?
Pleace can someone help me and SHOW me some/all calculations or a "easy" way to balance this?

HCl will not directly chlorinate tolulene, that takes chlorine either as a directly added reactant or formed from (say) HCl through oxidation.
Try the second reaction with Cl2, giving HCL and C7H7Cl

Too bad. It would be nice to get Cl gas from NaCl (salt) by elektrolysis, but...
How about this then: 2 KMnO4 + 16 HCl --> 5 Cl2 + 2 KCl + 2 MnCl2 + 8 H2O
Is that right? And how would that reaction go with the Toluene?
