Making colored oxide pigments - process for this?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum but I don't know what type of chemistry this belongs to.

I have seen MANY various colors of iron oxide, probably at least 10 different colors ranging from one end of the color spectrum to the other, it is quite fascinating. I have also seen bismuth, cobalt, chromium oxides along with some nitrides.

As far as iron oxides I was only aware of the red/orange (rust) and a brown & black but I have seen beautiful green, yellow and even brilliant blues!

Here is a link to a page that offers a lot of various pigments to see how many variations and types there are. Oxide pigments

I want to know how to make these or how to go about making them. At least where to start researching them.
