Quick test for zinc acetate?

I can't check the mp cos it's too high for my thermometers - but I figure what I have is either zinc acetate or zinc carbonate (it started as an excess of zn carbonate in GAA); can anyone advise a quick test, like a drop of hcl or something, to be ~sure this is acetate?

You just described it yourself: a drop of HCl should be sufficient, as with zinc carbonate it would bubble and release CO2, whereas with zinc acetate, not much would appear to happen, although it should begin to smell like acetic acid as the stronger acid, HCl, will displace it and form zinc chloride.
