Preparing Chloramines without formation of the H2N-NH2 compound?
I was planning to try to make some substituted chloramines with sodium hypochlorite (bleach), and I wanted to minimize the the formation of the
hydrazine-like compound. How realistically can this performed? If it is possible, what kind of reaction parameters should I control?

Is your starting amine primary or secondary? If it's secondary, making sure hypochlorite is always in excess should do the trick. (This wouldn't work
with primary amines, because dichloroamines could form).

Yes it would be a secondary amine. Are you saying that the hydrazine-type compound is difficult to form under these circumstances?
