Safe Storage of Methyl Iodide
Methyl iodide has about the same BP as dichloromethane, which I have seen disappear from a supposedly sealed bottle in my garage during the summer.
Any tips for how to safely store methyl iodide? Keeping it in my house, where air conditioning guarantees cooler conditions seems inadvisable for
obvious reasons. I do have a refrigerator in my garage, but I keep food in it.
Any good scavenger that could be placed in a sealed storage box?

I store mine in my basement temp doesn't go above 20C even in summer when outside it can go up to 45C,also it is light sensitive so amber bottle or
normal see through bottle covered with Al foil. But probably best thing is to put it inside of fridge so you have zero chance of accidents.Other thing
you can do is make it as needed so you don't need to think about storing it for long term.

I would put it, inside a secondary container, in the garage or even better a shed, never in the house. Some sort of amine might scavenge it, but
not going to work very well, due to the low concentrations. But you need one that is not too volatile, or it will also leak out, as well as into the
MeI. The more layers of plastic, the better, to a degree, so even putting the bottle in a zip lock bag and then in a sealed rubbermaid type
container would be good. A refrigerator would be good, but not critical, and I would not store it with food. There are a few chemicals I would
store in a food fridge (like NaHCO3, ethanolic vanillin extract, and aqueous ethanol solutions), but MeI is not one of them. Good luck.

I am thinking of getting one of these Vittles Vault (or other similar) dry food vault containers. They are very sturdy and said to be absolutely
airtight.

Not sure how well solder takes to steel, for example a paint can, but metal should be impermeable, more malleable than glass, which is of course
brittle, and can be sealed perfectly by melting. ICH3 will react with zinc, I believe, to form inflammable vapors. Perhaps tin or lead are compatible,
suggested because they are easily melted.
