Aniline from Aniline Hydrochloride
I want to get aniline, and I was thinking of getting it from aniline hydrochloride.
Would it be safe to assume that it could be synthesized by adding base? If so, do you have any recommendations for the base of choice?

You can add a base such as sodium hydroxide to aniline hydrochloride to liberate the free base. If you will have enough aniline to see, you could salt
it out of the basified mixture and simply draw off the insoluble aniline, dry it over KOH and either use it directly or distill it. Alternatively, you
can steam distill the basified mixture and recover the aniline from the distillate. You could also extract the aniline from the basified salt but you
should use a non-reactive solvent like ether.
