Sodium Nitrite
Hi,
I have read somewhere that this compound can be synthesized by heating NaNO3 until it melts, and then holding the melt for 10-15 mins - is this true
or just kewl crap?
Is it better to use lead or lampblack to reduce the nitrate? It just seems that there are yield and purity issues with those methods.
Thanks

I've heard that too, but when I read about it in Kirk-Otmeyer Encylopedia, it said that the nitrite would decompose. I don't remember to
what, probably oxygen. Something todo with temperature ranges being too close?. So I guess the yield is low
