Beginners steam distillations and isolation of useful componds.

Hi guys. I am a newbie or a beginner in the field of chemistry, and i am looking for easy and not too dangerous experiments.
I have many to choose from, but i lean towards doing steam distillations of cinnamon bark and orange peel. Plus the isolation of cinnamaldehyde and limonene.
I choose these two becouse its pretty straight forward and not too complicated. And also becouse oranges i can get any day of the week, and cinnamon i have a whole bunch of at home.

Can anybody add more extractions of plants thats readily available, and that can be a useful compound for future experiments?

There's already quite a bit of information about steam distillation on this forum. If you search for steam distillation with subject only selected, you'll find a lot of threads about it, like this one, which contains lots of useful looking resource that people have posted.
Or this one, which looks like the same sort of thing as your thread.

Encelia farinosa is a project arkoma is working on - he plans to extract 3-acetyl-6-methoxybenzaldehyde from the plant (it's a component of incense and a natural plant growth inhibitor).

Of course, what plants are available for extraction is highly dependent on your locality. Why not just find some plants and distill their contents? You might be interested to find out what they contain. Combined with chromatography you might be able to do a quality qualitative analysis.

I extracted limonene from orange peal today via steam distillation.

Its really easy.

You should also go check our Nile Red's video on extracting limonene. He's owns a really good chemistry channel.
