Benzene Source
Does anyone know of any natural source that benzene could come from? Or something easy such as buying something from a store and/or doing
distillations or reactions that would produce it?

If anyone was interested in finding the answer to this question I have also actually found exactly it. This video demonstrates the synthesis of it...
using sodium hydroxide and sodium benzoate!

I could not stop laughing at this video because I thought when the director said mighty putty, that he meant silly putty was used to make a safely
constructed DIY device for making it

these links might help you but you best have reliable ground glass and ample personal protective equipment before trying anything...Cancer is a tough
bastard.

as well as the reaction foundry vid you've found. I'd have more but given I'm getting on the tail end of finals week I must admit I am a touch burned
out.

You could also coke some coal (destructive distillation under inert atmosphere), which produces coat tar, a mixture of many aromatic and aliphatic
chemicals, including aniline and benzene. It was the source of many chemicals for years. Not sure how OTC coal is now, but it used to be pretty
cheap as far a chemicals go ($20 a ton or less). And the resulting "coke" (residual, mostly carbon, solids) is useful for making steel and other
handy products.
