I read that LAH is metastable at room temperature and during prolonged storage it slowly decomposes to Li3AlH6 and LiH.
I'm wondering how you can tell if this has happened and how would these products react with amides?
Also, would it purify the LAH to dissolve it in THF, and filter (under nitrogen)? How soluble are the decomposition products in THF?

Li3AlH6 is insoluble in THF, for the purification of LAH read this article:

But the decomposition due the humidity of air is more frequent. Titrate it with alcohol as I wrote it an another topic.
