Mercury in europe
I'd need few deciliters of elemental mercury for experimental chlor-alkali cell. I'd be happy to even pay some for it. Does anyone know where could it
be bought, or does someone happen to have some around?

Look at the suppliers index on here, it may have a few companies that are native to Europe and possibly could get you some elemental Hg.

target="_blank">ScienceCompany</a> <img src="../scipics/_ext.png" /> doesn't ship theirs outside the continental United States. <a
href="http://www.unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=16_17_69&products_id=163" target="_blank">United
Nuclear</a> <img src="../scipics/_ext.png" /> has it, but it's expensive and has the same shipping restriction. I'm not aware of many
places that <em>will</em> sell it in significant quantity, especially to amateurs. Your best bet is to source it locally, even if you
have to smash hundreds of tilt-switches. Look for old sphygmomanometers, barometers, manometers, and other pressure measuring equipment. Or you

I know a few companies that MIGHT do the job.. Keten is a BIG COULD, havent responded to emails though but he tends to get some specialties too if you
dear to ask. Hinmeijer offered some mercury, but the price was high and there was some non-specified "paperwork" which I dont precisely know of yet.
I know there IS mercury in europe, tons of it, in hands that could sell it straight away being pleased they get finally rid of it and even get paid
for it, not to pay for hazmats, only if you ever managed to get the message to them. The problem is, how to...
Tilt-switches are a source I have noted. I actually have some tilt switches with maybe total of about 100-200 grams of mercury. I just need enough to
make the pool for chlor-alkali.. Having just a 300mm diameter for bottom of the cell, for 5mm layer one would need 353cm3, or nearly 4 kilograms of
mercury and that would get only 300 amps through it. Aww...
I'd even consider going down into a mercury mine an option. I am in understanding that there were some mines in my country. For such a small amount,
scavenging a barrelful of minerals wouldn't be that big issue. My friend even obtained several kilograms of uranium through acidific purication from
ores he got from an abandoned mine.
