reactor best???

hi,

i'm new here. What is the best, or for what uses is best the 2 or 3 types of reactors joints???

I read a bit here and there and find: exist two basic joints, the flat joint or england joint from quickfit brand, basically the joint flat with the contact frosted, and the german joint from schott-duran, flat/slot/flat joint (the slot female in the reactor, male in the lids.

the quickfit use an o-ring??

also is absolutly necesary the o-ring en the german version? or vapors can scape from the vessel? best o-ring silicone coated or no? (for plants destil. and not want distilled liquid whit rubber or silicone taste...)

TIA
From Catalonia,

The Schott/Duran flat flange with groove and o-ring is in most regards superior to the also in Germany still existing DIN-normed flat flange with grounded surfaces. The Schott System uses the seal and you can get it from PTFE coated silicone or silicone alone, whilst the other one utilizes vacuum grease.
Contamination is with grease a real problem, with PTFE not at all, actually by the male-female design virtually only glass contacts the reaction.

Besides this the automativ centering due the groove prevents breaking of horrible expensive equipment by off-center montage.

Hope that answers your question
