Resins
I am interested in making different resins and after having searched about the procedures to synthesize some, I have decided to use acetophenone (or
1-phenylethanone) and add an aldehyde with a catalyst.
To synthesize the acetophenone, I will use the Friedel-Crafts reaction, adding acetyl chloride to benzene. After this, I will distill the product.
Then, I will divide the acetophenone in four or five beakers to make different resins... using different aldehydes, maybe, or substituting groups in
freshly preparated resins.
Any ideas? Has anyone done something similar?

some other threads you might find of interest:

You might also consider that there are some interesting polymerization products when acetone is mixed with a strong base, or strong acid. There have
been some investigations attempting to use these polymerization products as precursors for resins.

The first one is quite interesting. I didn't find it with the forum search engine, sorry.
I'll see if I also try that last reaction you mentioned with furfural. I don't know if I'll be able to synthesize it with my current chemicals, I'll
investigate a bit.
Thanks!

Since this was going nowhere in the Organic section (for the obvious reason), I moved it here as it fits better. Eddygp, please give the relevant
references, as I doubt you will find mind readers on this forum that also have enough knowledge to answer with a relevant idea. What kind of resins do
you want to make from acetophenone?
