Trimethoxyaluminium?
Hello,
I was wondering if compound like trimethoxyaluminium can be made, or it would be too unstable.
AlCl3 + 3 CH3ONa ----> 3 NaCl + Al(OCH3)3

Aluminum methoxide exists as a stable compound, but whether your suggested synthesis would work is another question.

Okay, and is it pyrophoric, like TMA?
And my synth. probably can work because sodium is reactive enough.

I have made triisopropylaluminium and it is not pyrophoric or particularly air sensitive. It does react with water but not in a spectacular way.

Methanol slowly dissolves aluminum. One would think the solution would then contain trimethoxyaluminum.
So it should just be a simple reaction, although a very slow one.
(6)CH3OH + (2)Al --> (2)Al[OCH3]3 + (3)H2

I suspect that the reaction can be made a lot faster by the addition of a small amount of a mercury salt that will form an amalgam and refluxing.
There should be lot of literature on making and handling trimethoxyaluminium, it's reactions and properties.
