Reagents for LSU qualitative Scheme
Im interested in Analytical Chemistry.
After checking for non Sulfide schemes (because I do not own a fume hood) found the LSU scheme.
for starters, I need these group reagents (as pure as possible from OTC):
1) HCl (can get HCl - or make some)
2) benzoates:
Ammonium benzoate (I could get Ammonia and benzoic acid OTC), will this produce ammonium benzoate? (Its as simple as adding the 2 reagents and check
for ph 7? I read that weak base + weak acid is difficult to find neutralization point - like there is more like a buffer produced)
Is there a better procedure?
Sodium benzoate: Same as above but benzoic acid + sodium carbonate. (or should be sodium bicarbonate instead?)
Is there a better procedure?
3) Ammonium flouride (NH4Fl) - this should be buyed from a chemical company (is there an OTC source?)
How bad is to work with this flouride - I know that flourides are nasty - of course no glass)
4) NaOH - could get NaOH.
Thanks
