Glacial acetic acid and baking soda slow reaction
Hi guys,
When I mixed glacial acetic acid with baking soda, it did not react basically at all. It produced a little bit of CO2 but no fizzing. I would have
assumed that when it would fizz a lot, since mixing vinegar and baking soda fizzes and produces a good amount of CO2. The only difference is I guess
the amount of water, but how does that accelerate the reaction?
So my question is why was the reaction with pure acetic acid and baking soda so slow compared to vinegar?

It's simple. Sodium bicarbonate is soluble in water but not in acetic acid. The ions that need to exchange can do so freely in aqueous solution, but
not so much at a solid-liquid interface.
