Looking for a cheap source of lithium salts
I'm looking for about a kg of technical grade lithium chloride but all I'm finding is very expensive lab grade. I looked at pottery shops for
carbonate which I could react with HCl and even that is $80 for 500g. Also did a quick search for oxide, hydroxide, acetate and sulfate. Any other
ideas?

You can buy the carbonate in Australia for about $90 USD/kg.

Yeah I can buy it in the US for less than that but its still outrageously expensive given that I got 20kg of KCl for $40. I don't understand why Li is
so uncommon and expensive compared to the other alkali salts.

Crustal abundance and production of Na and K are orders of magnitude higher than Li.
Supply-and-demand, and commoditisation...

Let's hope the financial crisis cleans up the electric vehicle companies so that there is an oversupply of Lithium for awhile. I'm not sure I would
bet on it getting much cheaper, though, seeing as most fiat seems to be hyperinflating.

I thought the battery industry and supply and demand had a lot to do with it but I just thought it'd be a little easier to find some cheap

How much do you need?
You could join the SM secret santa and pop it on your list.

I keep forgetting! I'm always at work when I think about it but since I'm home now I will sign up. Thanks for the reminder lol
I want to use it for molten salt electrolysis so .5kg would be a good amount to start with.
