Alkaline ethanol
I read a few articles which mention alkaline alcohols, but can't find much information on it. So you can dissolve bases like NaOH and ammonia in
alcohols like ethanol and isopropanol. What properties does this have? I know with acids, alcohols have a much lesser ability to solvate protons than
water so acids don't work as strongly in alcohols but they still work to some degree. I see that NaOH is only half as soluble in methanol as it is in
water. Is its solubility in methanol proportional to its ability to ionize in this solvent?

usually the purpose of having some base in alcohol is just to avoid water which might react or have solubility issues with whatever youre trying to
make.
I have myself made ethanolic ammonia for making Cu,Ni and Co complexes that are very soluble in water but not as soluble in alcohol.
