Data Leak

When I logged into the site it said there was a data leak that involved my password.

What is going on?

Possibly (speculation): If you have your password saved in your browser (like I do), and this same password was used at some other site (no connection to SM) where it was used, your browser will then know that this password is known to the outside, and may warn you.

That would be a nice feature to have in a browser, what browser do you use?

I think Chrome is the one that told me this. I do have a 'low security' password I have used on many sites, and did get compromised somewhere, so I do have something that gets flagged sometimes.

And I just realized that I did not make clear before: Somewhere there is a database of passwords that were exposed in some breaches. At least one of my passwords is in there, and it gets flagged as compromised sometimes. It does not have anything to do with the specific site I am logging into, other than I am using the same password there as I did somewhere else where it was leaked.

Seems like a good idea then to change all my passwords?

Changing the passwords that are being flagged as leaked, yes that is a good idea. Especially for any place that really matters (e.g. banking).
