Hotplate voltage and plug shape

When you choose hotplate/other electric equipment will you look at the voltage and plug shape? Will you choose one same voltage and plug shape as your country? If they don't have then will you buy it and use it with a transformer/adapter?

sorry for bad english

Buy one the same voltage as your country, but buying one with a different plug and changing that to the correct one for your country isn't an issue.

Edit: Just make sure that if it requires an earth (I suspect most do) that you aren't using just a two pin plug.
