So this would be the mechanism:
FC Acylation forms 2,5 Dimethoxyacetophenone --> Willgerodt-Kindler reaction and hydrolysis forms 2,5 dimethoxyphenylacetic acid's lactone which is
opened up by the Na2SO4 and NaOH method to form the acid?
The other method looks much simpler (Supplied by Nicodem, many thanks to him!), however I just wanted to know that reaction and have an arsenal of
methods to talk with the (gulp) O Chem guys to see if I can do this.
