heating mantel questions
I just bought an EMX1000/SCEX1 off ebay and since it didn't
come with a manual I have a few questions about it.
It accepts multiple flasks (50-1000ml on barnstead's site) by
using two heaters.
The heaters are selected by a switch that is labeled I and II,
which is which?
Does 50-1000ml mean 50ml and 1000ml or 50ml through
1000ml.
Lastly when I first got it I ran one of the elements loadless for
about a half hour to see if it worked, how badly did I screw
myself over by doing that?
Edit: a link to the manufacturers information

I think you are not interpreating things correctly, my gues is that they ahev models from 50ml to 1000mL capacity. Just depends which flask fits in.
You can use smaller flasks with such a mantle, using some insulation for the smaller flasks to avoid too much heat loss (I regularily heat 100mL
flasks with a 500mL mantle and some aluminium around the flask).
I fit has two heaters, I would be the lower one, for smaller flasks, and two would be boths filaments, for larger flasks.
Letting a mantle to heat without a flask isn't a problem, justa waste of electricity. You didn't damage it.

It is designed for use with at least two different sized flasks, the place where you put the flasks has two distinct "areas" one for smaller flasks
and one for larger ones. I wish I could find my camera so I could take a picture of it.
The best diagram I could draw with text

So the part of the switch labeled II should turn on both and I should just turn on the lower heater?

I'm glad to hear it, I'd hate to have ruined it before my boiling flasks even get here.
