Now that Rosco has expounded so much on Cobalt and got me looking into it, I came across this article (attached)describing the synthesis and testing
of Co3O4 "nanowalls" as field emitters.
The vertically oriented Co3O4 nanowalls were prepared "by a surprisingly simple method: directly heating Co foil on a hotplate under ambient
conditions".
I don't know how rugged the stuff would be under ion bombardment, but it's interesting to think about it.
