who can make ampoules?

Waffles - 9-6-2007 at 01:31

Hello! I am in need of someone who can make ampoules for me. What would be absolutely super ideal is the capability to make vacuum argon-backfill ampoules, but even just making ampoules under normal atmosphere and pressure would also be useful.

I'm willing to compensate in money, really cool metal that I have far too much of anyways, or platinum group chemicals. Please U2U me. Thanks!

If you have glass ampoules then they can be easily sealed on a blow torch.

Hold the base in your hand, place the tip at the edge of flame and rotate slowly. It seals itself in a minute.

Borosilicate/Pyrex doesn't work well in a hand torch flame, from my experience, even MAPP.
I also don't have the raw material right now.

What if your product inside the glass vial need to be sterile???
How would you go about sealing the vials?

Um, cook it in an autoclave afterwards??

Dang, if this was 1 year ago, you would be in luck.

How about if it was a hormone solution.
Would Autoclave have any effect on the chemical composition of the contents inside ampoule?

Proteins plus heat = denaturation, which is why heat sterilizes, or at least heat of a degree that doesn't cause out and out decomposition.

Sterilize the necked-down ampules first, inside a container to protect them from reexposure. Use a long-stemmed, sterilized funnel to fill them, keeping the neck dry. Do so, and then seal them, in a clean chamber with HEPA filtered air flow. Then seal the ampules up while in the chamber.

Not_important - Thanks mate that was an excellent reply.
I will keep that in mind :)

Would an Autoclave be better to sterilize rather than Gamma Irradiation?
What is the difference?

not_important - 10-6-2007 at 20:55

Depends on if you have a gamma source in the cellar or not 8-)

Depends on what you are sterilizing. Wiki has a decent overview http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sterilization_(microbiology), there's more online here and there.

Glass and stainless steel can be heated to 400 - 500 C, which destroys most everything infectious and most organic toxins.

I dont udnerstand why Gamma puts a tint on the glass with empty vial or Seasamee oil inside.
But when there is Benzyl Alcohol or Benzyl Benzoate sealed inside the vial it does not change from clear to dark tint whilst going through Gamma.

I don't know, where did that information come from? Could be that higher dosages are used for the oil than for the rather bacteria unfriendly aromatics; the empty vial has nothing else attenuating the radiation so the walls get a double dose.

Aldrich sells prescored ampules. Looks like you fill them with a syringe then flame seal the tip. Clear borosilicate to 50 ml, amber to 5 ml. Can be tip sealed or pull sealed.
