I've got a large collection of reagents and I've noticed a pattern over time. I have a handful of solid Alkyl Chloride type reagents and I notice they
turn the opaque HDPE into a redish purplish color. I have an indolic (non reactive) compound as well which does this to the container. In spite of
this, there is never any reagent discoloration, only container discoloration. Container integrity doesn't seem to be harmed.
This only happens with my solid reagents, and I'm not sure why. I can't figure out what sort of reaction is occurring that would produce these color
changes.
It hasn't posed any issues so far, but it's been intriguing for a while.
