Creatine fun?

crystal grower - 2-2-2018 at 01:34

Hi folks.
It's been a long time since I last posted but anyway,
I happen to have about 300g of Creatine monohydrate lying around and I'm not willing to ingest it. My question is, is there anything I can do with it, madscientist-wise?

Having looked at the molecule, I can think of a few interesting applications:
Polyamide synthesis, not sure how the imine moiety will affect things though,
Lactam/cyclic amide synthesis, again not sure about the imine but could be an interesting solvent if liquid relatively close to RT,
Complex ions, from which you should be able to grow some crystals.

You’ll have to look into these further, not familiar with the first two but complex ions are easy to form and doesn’t require anything more than mixing two solutions. Apparently lactams can also be used to synthesise polyamides, of which you can do some experiments.

Creatine perchlorate
Or creatine nitrate
Or complex salts with copper or nickel

Can I ask why you dont want to ingest it? I took it in high school to gain mass for bball and it seemed to work very well. That was almost 20 years ago and I don't have any weird growths that I know of yet. Ive actually considered supplementing with it semi recently. Being an endomorph is a bitch. Just curious if it has developed a bad rep in the last 20 years.

Tell me your in the uk :D, I am after some for a bio plastic experiment lol.

Journal of chemical education there is a paper in refs on making a biodegradable plastic with it.

Supplementing with creatine supposedly frees up s adenosylmethionine in the methylation cycle, a core biochemical pathway. It's so important that a billion shills have and will sell you creatine, SAM-E and about a billion other things that you most definitely get from eating stuff. Lol.

But it is quite good. Someone much smarter than me referred me to it... even if it does nothing its still useful if I think it's useful lol

It doesn't seem to have very pronounced effect if any on me.
Maybe it's because I already have a lot of beef in my diet.
So basically I feel no need to take it at all even though it might not have any negative effect long term.

Thanks for all ideas, will try some complexes for sure and read about the other stuff you mentioned.

Of course my supplementing with creatine also coincided with the start of a serious weight lifting routine and a DRAMATIC increase in water intake. But the weight gain had to be the creatine right?:P

If you give 30 weight lifters it as a supplement, and 6 months later they are bigger.......

Now replace the Creatine with rat shit, and give that for 6 months to same 30, i bet they grow just as much.

Its alot like 9 out of ten people enjoy a group beating, if you ask the ten people from the beating that is.
