I recently picked up a C100 temperature controller and a Fotek SSR-25 solid state relay combo (like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-PID-Temp-Controller-w-SSR...). The temperature controller is pretty easy to wire, but the package included
these mysterious brackets, and I can't figure out what they are for. My guess would be that they are intended to somehow attach the relay to the
temperature controller, but I don't see how... any ideas?

Its a clamp for the probe, its hard to explain because your pic isnt clear or straight. I will try though...
the metal probe has the nuts or normally one nut taken off, the probe then slips through the square hole. You put the nut back on and up at the height
you want (hence the square slit). The other bit turns around and is done up like a clamp, this traps or clamps the bracket in place.
The bracket goes vertical and the probe is the stick out horizontal if that makes sense. I will look see if i can find a pic that explains the above
better. Actually its a similar setup to some proximity switches.

Hmm... that is an interesting guess, but the probe doesn't fit into any of the holes far enough to put the nut back on.
I've actually seen much cheaper ones with 40 amp relays recently (this one for example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Digital-220V-PID-REX-C100-Te...). But until recently, that one on eBay seemed reasonably priced.

The probe should fit through the slot of the smaller bit of the bracket? I am positive its a mounting bracket that clamps, the ones I have seen are
not exactly the same but very similar. I have looked on the net but cant find a mounting pic that explains it well.

There's no slot in the smaller part of the bracket; there's an indentation only.

There are (at least) two "standards" for holes for mounting PID controllers. One's about 2 inch square, and the other about 4 inch square.
Would those brackets let you mount a small controller in a big hole?

They might.. the small tabs if detached seem to fit into slots in the sides of the PID controller, but there are four slots and only two of the small
tabs. They also seem as though they might be designed to slide along the larger tabs as rails.

Ah then maybe the bracket is for mounting the controller, as you say like other electrical rail systems. Sorry i assumed it had a slot in the small
bracket, the ones I have seen in wind turbines have them, the wind speed sensor fits through a slot like that on some models.
I might see if they do some cheap units like that on uk ebay, really good price!! Wasnt long ago that would have cost alot more, hell 5 years ago

@wg48: That is a different configuration, but the rails look identical, and there seem to be mounting slots to attach the rails similarly to the top
and bottom on mine. Thanks, that picture was very helpful.
