I'm trying to make Chrome Alum from stainless steel as a starting material, but I am having trouble separating chromium sulfate from the ferrous
sulfate.
The resulting mixture from reacting stainless steel with dilute sulfuric acid is two parts: one is a dark liquid and the other a green slushy-like
material. The dark liquid portion clearly has some ferrous sulfate in it.
Is there any way to separate the two compounds while leaving the chromium sulfate in tact?

Isolation of chromium compounds from stainless steel has been discussed in other threads.
I suggest sodium hydroxide. Cr forms a soluble complex ion; Fe does not.
